Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes of our latest project to explain the two most critical phases of pool construction: Structural Gunite and Master Masonry.
1. The Foundation: Why Gunite Matters
The early photos of our current project show the “raw” look of the pool. This is the Gunite phase. Unlike poured concrete, gunite is a mixture of cement and sand sprayed at high velocity over a complex web of steel rebar.

Structural Integrity: This process creates a single, monolithic shell with no joints, making it incredibly resistant to the shifting soil of California.

Custom Shapes: Gunite allows us to create the unique angles, benches, and “sun shelves” you see in the photos, tailored specifically to the client’s backyard layout.
2. The Plumbing & Pressure Testing
Before the finishes go on, our team installs high-efficiency plumbing. Every pipe is pressure-tested to ensure there are zero leaks behind the walls. We focus on hydraulic efficiency meaning your pump works less, your water stays clearer, and your energy bills stay lower.
3. The Art of Masonry: Tile and Coping
Once the shell is cured, the “makeup” of the pool is applied. In the recent progress shots, you can see our masons hand-setting the coping (the edge of the pool) and the waterline tile.

Waterline Tile: It’s not just for looks. This tile prevents the porous gunite from absorbing oils and minerals at the surface, making the pool much easier to clean.

The Feature Wall: Notice the raised bond beam with recessed cutouts. This will soon become a custom water feature, providing both a visual focal point and the relaxing sound of falling water.
